Get SMART – Achieve results through your people
It might be a sweeping statement to suggest that all businesses have targets and know when they have achieved them by measuring their results, certainly most successful ones do.
And how do they achieve their targets? To a greater extent it is through their people.
And they do this by knowing that they have the right people in the right place at the right time, doing the right things brilliantly.
Yes, this might be easier said than done but it is possible by setting each member of staff their own targets, goals or objectives, whatever the label the aim is the same. If you cascade these from the top down you have company goals, department goals and individual goals all aligned so everyone is striving to achieve the same end result.
At HR Protocol we acknowledge that goal setting is not as straightforward as it sounds either, so we work with company leaders and their management teams to identify and set SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic/Relevant and Time bound) goals.
The first result is that they have staff who understand what is expected of them and, importantly, the second result is that they then have a way of identifying how well their people are doing and can support and manage staff much better because they have tangible aspects of their performance to measure. The third result is success!
